Signering 18. november!
Boken består av to selvbiografiske bildesuiter, akvareller, "I get
along without you very well", og "Maureen flytter". Den kan ses på som en
frittstående fortsettelse av kritikerroste "There's no place like home"
"I get along without you very well" er den femte
boken No Comprendo Press utgir av Vanessa Baird. Tidligere utgivelser, som
alle er i salg: "You can't keep a good rabbit down" (2009), "Ulven og
reven" (2013), "Red herring. Prednisolon ciclosporin" (2016) og "There's no
place like home" (2020).
Vanessa Baird (f. 1964) er innkjøpt til Norges viktigste samlinger og har
hatt flere separatutstillinger i Norge og internasjonalt, og offentlige
utsmykningsoppdrag.
This long-awaited new graphic novel from Daniel Clowes (Ghost World and Patience) is a genre-bending thriller from one of the most innovative storytellers of all time.
Monica is a series of interconnected narratives that collectively tell the life story ― actually, stories ― of its title character. Clowes calls upon a lifetime of inspiration to create the most complex and personal graphic novel of his distinguished career. Rich with visual detail, an impeccable ear for language and dialogue, and thrilling twists, Monica is a multilayered masterpiece in comics form that alludes to many of the genres that have defined the medium ― war, romance, horror, crime, the supernatural, etc. ― but in a mysterious, uncategorizable, and quintessentially Clowesian way that rewards multiple readings.
Five years in the making, Monica marks the apex of creativity from one of the defining voices of the graphic novel boom over the past quarter-century. A new book from Clowes is always a huge event in comics and literary circles; Monica will be the biggest literary event of 2023.

Trekk pusten ... og fyll hodet med positive vibrasjoner fra DEN HVITE IRIS, albumet som vil gjøre deg gjennomført harmonisk ... eller ei. E = mc(2) . A world-changing equation and a wild head of hair are all most of us know about one of history's greatest minds, despite his being a household name in his lifetime and an icon in ours. But while the broad outlines of what Einstein did are well known, who he was remained hidden from view to most...even his closest friends. This is the story of a scientist who made many mistakes, and even when he wanted to be proven wrong, was often right in the end. It's a story of a humanist who struggled to connect with people. And it's a story of a reluctant revolutionary who paid a high price for living with a single dream. In Einstein, Jim Ottaviani and Jerel Dye take us behind the veneer of celebrity, painting a complex and intimate portrait of the scientist whose name has become another word for genius.

A deep dive into a contentious and dramatic period in Canadian history--the rise of a militant separatist group whose effects still reverberate today.
It started in 1963, when a dozen mailboxes in a wealthy Montreal neighborhood were blown to bits by handmade bombs. By the following year, a guerrilla army camp was set up deep in the woods, with would-be soldiers training for armed revolt. Then, in 1966, two high-school students dropped off bombs at factories, causing fatalities. What was behind these concerted, often bungled acts of terrorism, and how did they last for nearly eight years?
In Are You Willing to Die for the Cause?, Quebec-born cartoonist Chris Oliveros sets out to dispel common misconceptions about the birth and early years of a movement that, while now defunct, still holds a tight grip on the hearts and minds of Quebec citizenry and Canadian politics. There are no initials more volatile in Quebec history than FLQ--the Front de lib ration du Qu bec (or, in English, the Quebec Liberation Front). The original goal of this socialist movement was to fight for workers' rights of the French majority who found their rights trampled on by English bosses. The goal became ridding the province of its English oppression by means of violent revolution.
Using dozens of obscure and long-forgotten sources, Oliveros skillfully weaves a comics oral history where the activists, employers, politicians, and secretaries piece together the sequence of events. At times humorous, other times dramatic, and always informative, Are You Willing to Die for the Cause? shines a light on just how little it takes to organize dissent and who people trust to overthrow the government.

A peaceful, independent kingdom until its annexation by the Japanese Empire in the 19th century, Okinawa was the site of the most destructive land battle of the Pacific War. Today, the archipelago is Japan’s poorest prefecture and unwilling host to 75% of all US military bases in Japan.
Okinawa brings together two collections of intertwined stories by the island’s pre-eminent mangaka, Susumu Higa, which reflect on this difficult history and pull together traditional Okinawan spirituality, the modern-day realities of the continuing US military occupation, and the senselessness of the War. The first collection, Sword of Sand, is a ground level, unflinching look at the horrors of the Battle of Okinawa. Higa then turns an observant eye to the present-day in Mabui (Okinawan for “spirit”), where he explores how the American occupation has irreversibly changed the island prefecture, through the lens of the archipelago’s indigenous spirituality and the central character of the yuta priestess.
Okinawa is a harrowing document of war, but it is also a work which addresses the dreams and the needs of a people as they go forward into an uncertain future, making it essential reading for anyone interested in World War II and its effects on our lives today, as well as anyone with an interest in the people and culture of this fascinating, complicated place. Though the work is thoroughly about one specific locale, the complex relations between Okinawan and Japanese identities and loyalties, between place and history, and between humanity and violence speak beyond borders and across shores.
Please note: This book is a traditional work of manga and reads back to front and right to left.

“Golden Voice” helped define Cambodia’s Golden Age of music until her
mysterious disappearance in the killing fields of Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge.
Developed in partnership with Sothea’s family.
There is a saying in Cambodia: Music is the soul of a nation. Perhaps no
one embodied that spirit more than Ros Serey Sothea, a young woman who
would forever change the landscape of Cambodian music as the Queen with the
Golden Voice.
From a humble rice farmer to nationally recognized singer, Sothea’s
success captured the hearts of the Khmer people. Throughout her career, she
recorded over 500 songs, her signature angelic voice soaring over genres
from traditional ballads to psychedelic rock and beyond.
As the Cambodian civil war raged, Sothea's singing career continued to
flourish, even when she served in the army as one of the country's first
female paratroopers. After years of bloody conflict, the communist Khmer
Rouge seized control, murdering artists and destroying their music,
bringing Cambodia's golden age into a dark era of silence. Sothea’s fate
is unknown.
Ros Serey Sothea's golden voice lives on in the popular music of Cambodia
to this very day. Gone but not forgotten, her legacy continues to
inspire. The Golden Voice tells the story of Sothea’s life,
developed alongside the surviving family who knew her, and accompanied by
an interactive soundtrack.
