Arne Anka, the swedish cult comic, finally in English!
Arne was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in the winter of 1983, and right from the get-go he has been pointing a finger at the sicknesses of the world and of humanity as a whole. Like a drunken medic his diagnoses were sometimes quite accurate and put to print, spread through magazines and newspapers stirring up more than one polemic. He didn´t speak about monsters, superheroes, fantasy or adventure; he spoke of daily life, and we all know that nothing is more political than how we live, and are allowed to live our short lives. That’s why we insist on labelling this comic as “hyperrealism in fable form”. Its inspiration is found in conversations in bars and cafeterias; the foundations of democracy.
This doesn´t stop the duck from travelling in space and time, and to reincarnate in different souls of his forefathers. That is why he can be found in Paris in the 1920´s drinking beer with Ernest Hemingway or discussing love & marriage in Brooklyn during the reign of Donald Trump. Arne Anka moves in a truly machiavellian universe, it is all to try and give us a better understanding of who we are and why we are here. And if he sometimes might seem a bit opinionated, it is only to invite the reader to form their own opinion.
Here is a presentation of some of his best comics, both old and new, a selection made by its author, Charlie Christensen.
