When it first appeared in 1971, Larry Clark's groundbreaking book Tulsa
sparked immediate controversy across the nation. Its graphic depictions of
sex, violence, and drug abuse in the youth culture of Oklahoma were
acclaimed by critics for stripping bare the myth that Middle America had
been immune to the social convulsions that rocked America in the 1960s. The
raw, haunting images taken in 1963, 1968, and 1971 document a youth culture
progressively overwhelmed by self-destruction -- and are as moving and
disturbing today as when they first appeared. Originally published in a
limited paperback version and republished in 1983 as a limited hardcover
edition commissioned by the author, rare-book dealers sell copies of this
book for more than a thousand dollars. Now in both hardcover and paperback
editions from Grove Press, this seminal work of photographic art and social
history is once again available to the general public.

Inspired by the title of a poem by the Finnish writer Aaro Hellaakoski, Me Kaksi (which translates to "us two" in English) celebrates the fortuitous encounter, the strange closeness, the presence in the world of two beings. Spanning more than forty years of peregrinations across the world, the photographs in this book, combining a selection of iconic and some unpublished ones, reproduce these fleeting moments seized surreptitiously by Pentti Sammallahti. The idea of the duo, the couple, of all kinds of accomplices appears recurrently in the photographer's work. Whether it is lovers, friends, children, passers-by, travelers, neighbors but also a man and his dog, two birds ... these images tell of attachment, tenderness, the universality of the emotional bond, “being-in-the-world” together.
Published on the occasion of the exhibition, Jean-Michel Basquiat: Art and Objecthood, at Nahmad Contemporary, this book will illuminate the role of found objects and unconventional materials in the Jean- Michel Basquiat's oeuvre. Basquiat, whose artistic practice has profoundly impacted audiences on an international scale, used objects and media from his environs to proliferate messages of social justice and change.
Featuring a breadth of works that the artist made using unconventional painted supports and found-object sculptures, this publication will provide an innovative, in-depth look into the artist's sculptural practice. In addition to painting and drawing on items within his domestic spaces-refrigerators, chairs, and cabinets-Basquiat also left his mark on items he encountered on the street-discarded windows and doors, mirrors, wood boards, and subway tiles.
The publication will present new scholarship by leading Basquiat academics and art historians that will explore Basquiat's use of found objects and materials and their role in addressing issues of social inequality and the politics of race in the United States.

By presenting a diverse geographic and ethnic selection, this anthology interprets the concept of the photobook in the broadest sense possible. From classic bound books and portfolios, to unpublished works, zines, and scrapbooks, it documents well-known publications, such as Germaine Krull’s ‘Métal’ (1928) and ‘Diane Arbus: An Aperture Monograph’ (1972), and relatively unknown items, like Eslanda Cardozo Goode Robeson’s ‘African Journey’ (1945) and Eiko Yamazawa’s ‘Far and Near’ (1962). Moreover, it addresses glaring gaps and omissions, especially the lack of access, support, and funding for photobooks by non-Western women and women of colour.
Fra Wallpaper Magazine:
Ahead of the opening of the new National Museum in Oslo this summer, photographer and regular Wallpaper* contributor Ivar Kvaal is publishing a book focusing on the architecture project’s building work. Containing, as its title suggests, 36 beautifully composed stills from the construction site, the publication also features an essay, by the architect of the museum, Klaus Schuwerk. ‘Museums are commonly thought of as noble and ancient institutions with their origins found far back in history. Nothing could be further from the truth. The public museum has existed for little more than 200 years. In comparison to the origins of architecture, which date back more than 6000 years, museums are a novelty,’ he writes.
